I have had some requests for updates... Apparently I have been kind of vague. J Parker is doing pretty well. They extubated him very successfully on Thursday and was breathing room air by that night. They are slowly weaning him off the morphine-some days and nights he does better than others. Hopefully some time this week he will move out of the PICU to inpatient physiatry, which is step before rehab since he can't withstand 3 hours of rehab yet. His injuries were really extensive. Like I said he has some big mountains to climb. I am so eternally grateful we got to keep him. Looking back over the last 4 weeks I realize now just how close it was. He will be pretty much starting completely over, but we are really hopeful and excited to begin this next phase. I know it will be hard-much harder than I suspect we can even guess, but hopefully rewarding as well. I loved this little guy before, and I love him even more now. I wish the very best for him. Please pray for him as he begins this new part of his journey that his brain can mend and heal, that his neurons will reconnect and grow and that we will witness miracles in his recovery.

Rebekah Towers Thanks for sharing. Always in our thoughts and prayers for a healthy recovery.

Kira Durham Great seeing you today. Thanks for sharing. Lifting you all in prayers.

Kimberly Knowlton Oldham Thanks for the update. I think about you a lot.

Kristi Perkins So will they put a plate in the place where they had to take out his skull? Is the swelling gone, or is there still some swelling?

Kelley Drury Birrell The frankincense is on its way, and should help with the swelling. I love this update, and I'm excited to hear more. We are praying daily for miracles! We love you!!!!!

Abby Schulz Stephens I believe miracles will happen for Parker if for no other reason than yours and Darrell's faith. You're both so strong. And even though I'm sure it'll be possibly the most challenging thing you'll experience you can make it through and be even more amazing for it. My mom told me shortly before my dad passed that we are rough gems. Each experience we go through will polish us. The harder the challenge the more the polish. Watching my dad change through his illness made me truly believe that she was right. I'll keep praying for you to have strength, for his team to make the right choices, and for Parker to heal and achieve miracles. I love your family and know that you can do this!

Carol Rich Brown So happy he can breathe on his own. Thanks for the updates!

Amanda Oveson Simper thanks for the update! we love seeing pictures of him too!

Brandy Kole Konold Appreciate the update Ashley. The little guy is a fighter, we'll be praying for those miracles.

Meg Gibson Singley Glad for the updates, no matter the news. I am grateful for your attitude and example and will continue to pray for you guys.

Ashley Drury Swenson Kristi Perkins he is still pretty swollen, but it is mostly fluid that is trying to reabsorb. They will wait maybe a few months before either putting the bone back in or a plastic plate of some sort. His bone is still up in UCLA. We don't have to make any decisions about that for a while. As he begins to move around more he will get a helmet until the swelling and fluid goes down enough. We are also praying the fluid will absorb on its own and he won't need a shunt.

Kristi Perkins Mmm, hadn't thought about a shunt. Erica has one of those. Praying for Parker and your family daily.
Adrienne Blackburn Whittle yes, thank you for the updates. i find myself thinking of him often.

Judy Stevens Cook We will continue to pray for your family and little Parker and hope he will surprise us all with wonderful miracles in the next few weeks!
